Today’s health issues have less to do with the medical care, more to do with our self and environment!
A published data said "60% of our today’s health and well-being has
nothing to do with the medical care we receive". We all agreed! It’s directly connected to behavioral, environmental and social factors – everything from access to
information, media, public transportation to the availability of health food in
your neighborhood, association influence, work-life balance, etc. among many
other factors.
"Only
about 20% of our health status is attributable to health access to medical
care, while another 20% is tied to genetics or behavioral patterns" is what the doctors who
practice functional medicine here say. This means that lifestyle factors and the
so-called social determinants have an incredibly important impact on a healthy
lifestyle.
At
WELLBEEING Integrated Lifestyle Health Centre, we are already seeing some
extremely positive results from our focus on people’s health and social/family
determinants. It represents the most recent tangible expression of our
mission-creating healthier communities, and providing quality aging through
'integrative medicine' approach.
We are
attempting a success in this growing yet concerned industry with two
fundamental objectives:
- Transform WELLBEEING into a health care
provider – not just a clinic system – but ensure basic human needs are
addressed as a standard of care and a personalized approach.
- Influence the way medicine could be practiced
for better quality of life and treat the person as a whole – mind, body
and spirit.
- Create an eco system in the community to
support and build awareness and further create healthful impact for those
we serve.
Here’s a couple of good examples of what we mean when we say this program is designed to address the health and wellness concerns of people suffering from chronic disorders or even those who are proactive about their health:
One individual came with a problem of double vision (diplopic vision) with a nerve paralysis which hindered his daily activities and driving complication due to prolonged diabetes. He was met by the health adviser with a care coordinator who followed up for his visits and treatments and therapies of ‘diabetes reversal program’. Results of two months program, vision resolved 98%, fasting sugar dropped to normalcy, substantial improvement in general well-being, increased energy levels and decrease in his medications drastically. He drives to the clinic on his own now.
Other
individual who was 48 yrs came with the problems of digestive disorder, diabetes
and hypothyroid for 10 years and BP for over 12 years, with series of daily
medication had challenges coping up in his business. His wife who became
familiar with WELLBEEING’s approach, influenced him to enroll into an extended guided health program. A very
comprehensive screening and risk analysis were done due to multiple issues. The
team of doctors had to address his stress levels, reduce symptoms and sugar
levels, corrections in food habits and close monitoring were required along
with therapy and treatment interventions. In 3 months’ time, BP reduced from
150/100 to 110/70 mmhg, TSH reduced from 7.23 IU/ml to 4.49 IU/ml (Thyroid
antibodies (TPO) reduced from 1300 to 130 u/ml), cholesterol reduced to normal
with high improvement in Vit D. Evidence through D-RAP technology (disease risk
analysis) showed excellent improvement in the arterial and vascular health and
aging. Many potential therapeutic parameters of Diabetes and Cardiac health
showed significant improvement which very evidently reduced the future risk and
complications.
These
problems that are categorized as chronic disorders are so common and
inter-related, yet our conventional approach is to prescribe multiple
medications for multiple symptoms.
With right
understanding and strengths of various systems of medicine available, treating
such multiple issues seems so simple – and so basic. Yet these sorts of
non-traditional approaches to health care – helping people live their lives and
providing them with the things that so many of us take for granted -- have a
huge and lasting impact on our communities. We are very excited about these
kind of results and smiles on our patients.
Simply put,
this is the future! The future of health care lies outside of the
traditional limitations of actual hospital premises. It’s the future as we
continue to evolve towards a health system that concentrates on well care
rather the sick care – and one that focuses on clear outcomes such as higher
quality, lower costs, higher value and better overall safety.
