A CASUAL WRITE ON A SERIOUS NOTE: EATING WHOLE - ALL FRUITS & NUTS

On my routine consultation, people always argue and say "I want to control my diabetes and the doctor asked me to stop excess fruits instead, have digestive biscuits". Some wise people even say "as a doctor you don't know that nuts increase cholesterol levels and dangerous to the heart?" My own cousin started arguing on this and said "you are wrong. Go read properly".

Well, the pharma industry perhaps is getting paid off for that today in abundance. These were easily acceptable few years ago, as none of us had time to verify these facts on whether fruits and nuts are helpful or harmful. Today, thanks to online encyclopedia.

Let me know answers to these 2 questions:
  1. Have you ever googled cholesterol content in cashew nuts/peanuts (or any nut you could name)?
  2. Now many of your say Banana has a high glycemic index? or how can a diabetic or Obese eat fruits like Banana, Watermelon, Mango, Chikku, Pineapple, Jackfruit? My question is speaking about the glycemic index did you ever bother to know the “GLYCAEMIC LOAD”
Rethink! How many times you logically and scientifically thought, when you ate your last favorite JUNK?? Viz., Pizza, Masala dosa, cheese sandwich, samosa, kachori, fried rice, noodles, bread toast or even when you had your last beer!!!!!!!!!!

It amused me when my hefty diabetic neighbor feels extremely hungry and rejects the fruit offered by me, as advised by his doctor, and rushes to a nearby restaurant and has 2 Masala Dosas with no oil.

Unfortunately, many doctors misguide their patients on these aspects.

Also, my close friend's mother always carries a bar of 5-star chocolate in her bag and a pouch full of biscuits as she experiences hypoglycemia quite often being diabetic. But will consciously avoid Fruits. It was hard for her to accept that she was on excess medication

The real facts are quite different from what you thought! The rest of the research is up to you

  • Fruits digest more quickly and soothes your digestive system, and hence a good replacement for your breakfast. Take at least 10 to 15 grams of fruits per kilo body weight (still worried about sugar reading then check Postprandial sugar 2 hours post your fruit breakfast)
  • Banana has tryptophan hence calms down your mind on regular intake. It has a sustained release of sugar which keeps up the energy levels longer and reduces craving. So obese people please eat bananas because you are putting on weight due to excess eating, not because of banana or any sweet fruit.
  • All Nuts have zero cholesterol and have no harmful effect on your Heart instead a much better choice to replace your snacks (Around 10 almonds, 2-3 Cashew nuts, 4 walnuts, 25 gms roasted or sprouted peanuts, and 2 to 4 Pista should be a good evening snack and an Immune booster)
  • Most important eat all the seasonal and regional fruits. They are available at a particular season or place with a reason behind them.
  • The fruits and Nuts mentioned above are harmless compared to your coffee, tea, mixture, laddoo, biscuits, or your other Evening snacks and surprisingly lesser in Calories. (In case if nuts and fruits are taken slightly in excess need not worry as your Nourishment is upgraded)
  • Do remember if you are made not to eat fruits nuts and most of the vegetables as said by modern doctors and pharma industries you end up falling sick as the main source of Nutrition is taken away and end up eating only for your survival (being alive with medications)
“Do not try to get adjusted to your medication intake, rather correct your food habits, so you require lesser or 'NO' medication”

Do we need to go back to getting dirty and having fun for better Immunity?

International Overdoes Awareness.  Is over caring taking us away from our body's own immunity power?   The concept of immunity in traditional medicine came from the fact that human beings are born with a basic immune system which may be weak or strong. Through constant interaction with the microbes in our environment, and within our gut, we learn to fight against new microbes. This helps to strengthen the immune system. Over time, in the name of hygiene the excessive usage of insecticide, microbicidal agents, and lack of interaction with nature (plants, soil and external organisms) has gradually made our immune system weaker. Immunity, as we understand through modern medicine is the function of certain cells, enzymes and immunomodulatory chemicals that attack pathogens preventing them from disease creation. This concept of invasion from microorganisms on the biological defense system led to the development of antibiotics and vaccines. However, with the developments of auto-i...

An Integrated approach for hypothyroidism: Is this approach a solution to avoid long-term medication?

A case at WELLBEEING© Integrated Health Centre was promising to study further the synergistic effect of working together at the body-mind levels of an individual, rather than depending only on long-term thyroxine drug. This person had been diagnosed with primary hypothyroidism by independent medical and lab assessment, of which conservative management had failed to normalize the TSH, which showed a continued upward trend; this individual could not lose weight by conventional methods. The patient underwent the lifestyle modification with hypothyroid management program  at WELLBEEING. His weight was regularly checked, stress was relieved, and the TSH was done at the end of 6 weeks, both of which showed significant improvement. This report demonstrates that integrated management as an approach has shown to be effective in a case of autoimmune thyroiditis, and hopefully will reduce the dependency on the medications as well. However, this has encouraged the team to research fur...

Even a single Doctor Transformation, means a lot to our mission! Happy Doctors Day!

Doctor's day! A good doctor’s comforting and reassuring words are sometimes more powerful than medicines.  A message from an Intern who did her dissertation at WELLBEEING during this Covid-19 lockdown...   - By Dr. Shreeka Prakash, MBBS, PGDHM (pursuing) After having completed my 5-year long MBBS along with a strenuous year of internship, I was inclined towards pursuing a specialization and continuing with my further studies. However there still existed some hesitancy to follow the conventional path that most of my fellow peers chose, considering the many issues faced by the post-graduates working in hospitals across the country. I was driven into the field of medicine due to the sheer love of learning how the human body functions. Though the basic human sciences and how various pathologies worked were well established for most of the human diseases; the treatment protocols undergo regular alterations to this date and some medications are still unconvincing. Indeed,...
