Even a single Doctor Transformation, means a lot to our mission! Happy Doctors Day!

Doctor's day!

A good doctor’s comforting and reassuring words are sometimes more powerful than medicines. A message from an Intern who did her dissertation at WELLBEEING during this Covid-19 lockdown...

 - By Dr. Shreeka Prakash, MBBS, PGDHM (pursuing)

After having completed my 5-year long MBBS along with a strenuous year of internship, I was inclined towards pursuing a specialization and continuing with my further studies. However there still existed some hesitancy to follow the conventional path that most of my fellow peers chose, considering the many issues faced by the post-graduates working in hospitals across the country.

I was driven into the field of medicine due to the sheer love of learning how the human body functions. Though the basic human sciences and how various pathologies worked were well established for most of the human diseases; the treatment protocols undergo regular alterations to this date and some medications are still unconvincing. Indeed, there is a significant reduction in the burden caused by majority of the diseases, but a thorough, in-depth cure hardly ever occurs. This aspect of care and nursing still felt inadequate in qualities of trust, empathy, psychological wellbeing, stress management, diet, and exercise - in short, a wholesome approach. Understanding the above deficits in our healthcare system, it convinced me that inculcating these qualities in our care could bring about drastic improvements and add value in a patient’s overall journey of recovery. It encouraged me to get involved in a more integrative methodology to treat humans.

Integrative Medicine to me is a holistic approach, with paramount importance given to mind, body, and breath. The same as WHO defines health - “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”, my duty is to attain that in all my patients to the best of my abilities.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, an integrative approach was the need of the hour and with time gained momentum and people are realizing the value behind it. I was fortunate to have been introduced to Wellbeeing and fascinated with their approach in tackling chronic ailments. Having understood the biology behind the diseases, my interest fell on managing such a center and understanding the challenges in running the center and thereby provide effective solutions to the same.

After a period of two months of analyzing and studying the functioning of the Integrative facility, I was able to conclude that the health policy makers are crucial for such centers to flourish.  There is a need for advancement of research that spotlights on health outcomes. Due to lack of funding from the government and investors, it is a challenge for any entrepreneur to sustain in the business. If the right investors are tapped, I see a tremendous scope for their services in the present-day market. Since the approach of each field of healthcare is different, standardization (through certifications) can tackle multiple barriers, such as pooling like-minded people and help solve ego clashes.

My sincere thanks to Dr Roopa Lakshmi for having shared her valuable experience she gained over the past years and the adept guidance throughout my research work and being available to talk whenever need arose. Her passion has motivated me to pursue Integrative Medicine and bring a real difference in patients’ lives with a clear intention of service!

Integrative Medicine  is a transformation in healthcare with evidence based practices to achieve sustainable health. Our tradition & culture is to respect all. Under such circumstances, the only alternative is to take the best of both worlds (modern and traditional) together and develop effective management of disorder, which is more safer, reduces risks and dependency on long-term medication. WELLBEEING, is a unit of Aurazia Wellness Pvt Ltd., located in Sahakarnagar, an integrated lifestyle health center providing  Diabetes Reversal Program  through integrating modern and traditional system of medicines. “The cause of diabetes is due to lifestyle deviation that strongly contrib...

A CASUAL WRITE ON A SERIOUS NOTE: EATING WHOLE - ALL FRUITS & NUTS

On my routine consultation, people always argue and say "I want to control my diabetes and the doctor asked me to stop excess fruits instead, have digestive biscuits" . Some wise people even say "as a doctor you don't know that nuts increase cholesterol levels and dangerous to the heart?" My own cousin started arguing on this and said " you are wrong. Go read properly ". Well, the pharma industry perhaps is getting paid off for that today in abundance. These were easily acceptable few years ago, as none of us had time to verify these facts on whether fruits and nuts are helpful or harmful. Today, thanks to online encyclopedia. Let me know answers to these 2 questions: Have you ever googled  cholesterol content in cashew nuts /peanuts (or any nut you could name)?  Now many of your say Banana has a high glycemic index? or how can a diabetic or Obese eat fruits like Banana, Watermelon, Mango, Chikku, Pineapple, Jackfruit? My question is speaking about the...

An Integrated approach for hypothyroidism: Is this approach a solution to avoid long-term medication?

A case at WELLBEEING© Integrated Health Centre was promising to study further the synergistic effect of working together at the body-mind levels of an individual, rather than depending only on long-term thyroxine drug. This person had been diagnosed with primary hypothyroidism by independent medical and lab assessment, of which conservative management had failed to normalize the TSH, which showed a continued upward trend; this individual could not lose weight by conventional methods. The patient underwent the lifestyle modification with hypothyroid management program  at WELLBEEING. His weight was regularly checked, stress was relieved, and the TSH was done at the end of 6 weeks, both of which showed significant improvement. This report demonstrates that integrated management as an approach has shown to be effective in a case of autoimmune thyroiditis, and hopefully will reduce the dependency on the medications as well. However, this has encouraged the team to research fur...
